Home to navigators, exquisite gastronomy, and a fashion icon. Getaria, a charming fishing village in Gipuzkoa, is famous for being the birthplace of Juan Sebastián Elcano and fashion designer Cristóbal Balenciaga.

Situated on the Bay of Biscay, close to Donostia/San Sebastian, the town offers stunning views, a historic old town and the unmistakable Mount San Anton, known as “the Mouse of Getaria”. Its port is known for its delicious gastronomy, with grilled fish paired with local txakoli. Here we can find Michelin-starred restaurants such as the Elkano Restaurant.

The town, which has an important past linked to whale hunting, is also a fashion icon and is home to the Cristóbal Balenciaga Museum. Getaria undoubtedly offers a unique combination of maritime history, fashion, natural beauty and gastronomy, making it an essential tourist destination on the Basque coast.
